| Notice your thoughts | ||
| What are you telling yourself? Do some of your thoughts create painful feelings? Notice your painful feelings. | ||
| Fear, Disappointment, Loneliness, Inadequacy, Sadness, Depression. |

| Know you are safe. Your safe place is with you as you notice your pain. | ||
| Acknowledge your pain and be kind to it. It is part of you. Notice how it gets softer. | ||
| Now you have a sense of freedom. You can chose happiness. You can stay in your safe place where love and peace live. | ||
| Keep a connection to that safe place- all the time-a lifeline to your heart. | ||
| How to Use Pain Buddies to Soothe Your Pain: | ||
| Pain hurts; it can make you feel trapped- tie the pain buddy's arms gently together. | ||
| Face your pain, don't run away-keep your pain buddy close. Reassure your buddy that you will stay. Put your pain gently around your neck. | ||
| Notice how pain feels inside you-talk to your pain buddy about how it feels- or be silent with your pain and see what stories it has to tell you. | ||
| If you want to, you can tell someone else about your pain-each take a hand. | ||
| Notice how small your pain buddy's heart is- touch your heart-let pain open your heart -then let pain go! | ||
